Raking in the profits

Banners along the street advertising Mei Lan.

Okay, Mei Lan is really cute. But when you see an article about her in the newspapers about every week, the novelty kind of wears off.

Especially when most of those news stories are essentially just one story rewritten in many different ways.

The first time you read about how the wriggling fur ball cannot stay still enough for the vet to measure her length, you find it very cute. The secound time is mildly amusing. But third time? Find some other news angle already.

One angle could be about how the zoo is capitalising on her to earn big bucks. In the mornings, the baby panda will be put in the outside enclosure with Mommy. For a view of the baby and Mommy then, visitors have to buy a US$5 special viewing ticket on top of general zoo admission. Your ticket will allow you to watch them for 15 minutes.

That's right, 15 minutes.
If you do not wish to succumb to their strongarm tactics, you could visit in the afternoon, but you won't be guaranteed a view because "Mei Lan, like any other beauty, may decide she needs her beauty sleep".
